@01:43I would love to offer you advanced critique, but this really is not my field.

But I will give you my opinion, for what it’s worth.

OK. I watched this in small normal quality with no sound, and to be honest I was not impressed. BUT, to give it a fair shot I downloaded Divx, turned up the speakers and re watched in full screen, AND I totally loved it.
I loved the speed, the crazy angles, and the odd series of images that pulled the film together and made the story/gave it a sense of real time.
I really loved the music, Did you actually make it or did you mix it?
Re the music, on the whole I thought it went really well, except for the synth at 1.03 to 1.09 and then again at 1.36 to 1.42.
This is probably just me, but the synth sound is quite sharp, yet dreamy where as the images are still quite harsh and jagged.
The other disappointment was the end, A. because it ended and B. because it ended so abruptly, my brain had no warning, and so was not ready for the sudden silence and blank screen.
I hope this does not read to harsh, I really did love it.
Is this your first film?
What did you use? How?
Genuine interest, I've never made a film but have always fancied it.
BTW, This reminded me of Man Rays "Raison D'etre"

I hope you get to read this in a bigger box than I'm writing in:)

very few shots are original. we have all made the same trip around the city over in endless loops. but that in itself says something of the film. perhaps thats what its about, boring endless loops. I must object to those who think the music somehow adds importance or art to the issue.

wow, thank you so much for the very insightful critique!
i really appreciate that you liked it so much- yes, my trip was a sort of "mental health getaway" and i wanted for the video to have that chopped up, speedy quality that my reeling mind's experience of the trip had.
i find that in general, unless a film is intentionally made to be silent, most films are pretty boring without the sound... that's why i try my best with adding sound to my films, even though i am not a musician.
i mixed the sound to this using loops in apple's garageband.
this is not my first film, you can view my other videos and animations in this gallery: [link] as well as on my youtube channel: [link] ....
i actually did most of my graduate work in video and animation, but haven't done much of it since i left school a couple of years ago. that is partly because i don't have the resources (eg software) that i had at school.
what i used to make this "time-lapse" video, which is more like stop-motion using still photographs, is a very simple free application from google called picasa. what i consider to be the "art" part that i had a hand in is mainly the hundreds of still photographs and their sequencing...

i am planning to get the software and other things i need and start making "real" animation and video-art again soon.... i guess just as i am planning to make more work with the "asylum at 4AM" photographs... ;)
i actually have something of an idea for a video using those photographs :lightbulb:

you may like this video: [link]
the actors were composited over photographs of that asylum model... i didn't submit this one to dA because of the soundtrack, which is by siouxsie and the banshees. someday i'll replace it with my own music...

well, this is turning more into a list of all the projects i am planning to do someday :lmao:

but i hope i've answered your questions and managed to convey how much i appreciate the time and thought you took to view and comment on this video!:heart::heart:
i would be honored to recieve more comments from you on my other videos.

did you mean man ray's "Le Retour A La Raison (The Return to Reason)"? i just watched it at [link] and yes- i know exactly what you mean, and i like it very much.

thank you very much again!

:stupidme: How stupid do I feel, Of course I ment "Le Retour A La Raison"
Yes I too really love this film and others especially Emak Bakia [link]
When you've watched these just click the film link, top left, to find a mini movie heaven:)

Insightful, really?

Chopped up speedy mind trip is exactly what you achieved, :)

I agree, unless the film was made to be silent, it rarely works without sound.
I must admit that sometimes I like to watch films like this one or the Man Ray
with my own music either what I’ve dreamt up or whatever I’m in the mood for.
It obviously changes your perception of the film, and can prove interesting.

I haven’t played with garageband but I am reliably informed that it’s very good,
I tend to play with creative wave editor, and sounds that I find on the web.

I’ve checked out your gallery and will return when I have more time,
so far I am loving “w.n.e” and the “bagman”, and really wishing that
“something strange was 5 mins longer:)

You studied this at school! cool, what do you mean by real animation?
In my head true animation is “Stop motion” and may be drawn animation,
but that is probably just my age;).

:eager: I have said that I am patient, but you keep teasing me:lmao:

I have often thought about making a short film, especially a stop motion, maybe one day.
Have you seen “The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb” by the Bolex brothers [link] this is just a short clip.

“Our Happy House” is brilliant, I genuinely enjoyed it, I felt like a voyeur, or maybe a security guard,
watching a bank of hidden cameras, with a faulty sound system, that kept picking up local radio.
It’s a shame you can’t post here, I know others would love it. I love Siouxsie, and BTW,
I also love and was amazed to see This Mortal Coil, I love this track, but my favourite has to be “The Jeweller”, for obvious reasons :)

Yes, you have, thank you for such an in-depth reply, full of links, which I can keep and share.
I have just had a very pleasant evening watching your films listening to music, and writing this.
